FACEBOOK'S 100 FOOD LIST - 96% Eaten...

So in 2012 there was this quiz circulating on Facebook asking people how many foods out of a seemingly random list of 100 they had tried. The vast majority of people scored under 50.

This inspired me to try and score that perfect 100, just to one-up my friends.

Sadly, didn't quite get there, but I HAVE REASONS. There are 4 items I didn't eat:

1- Kobe Beef

Actual TRUE Kobe beef can pretty much only be had in Japan and like 3 restaurants in the USA because of its tiny supply and exporting laws.

I saw many people check that item off their list because they think that "Kobe Sliders" from TGI Friday's count. Outside Japan, there is no control on the appelation "Kobe Beef" so any idiot can call any beef they want "Kobe Beef" and sell it to you at a premium.

There's also farms that raise the same kind of cattle in Australia and the USA. They probably produce a very similar product. Would that count? Who knows. Officially only beef from Japan can be caled true "Kobe" just like only sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France can be called Champagne, even if it tastes exactly the same.

2- Fugu

You need a special license to sell this and it's only available in the United States for a lot of money at a select few restaurants, mostly on the west coast. I was actually on vacation in that area that year so if I had really wanted I could have taken half a day to go eat my stupid fugu.

3- Squirrel

It's actually illegal to sell squirrel meat in Canada, because they are disease-ridden varmints. I sadly didn't feel like shooting any of the 5 trillion that are roaming around where I live. You have to cook them really well if you want to eat them anyway, so how good can it really taste?

4- Chitlins

Where I live, in Quebec, it's not legal for butchers to sell buttholes, for sanitary reasons (i.e. they are literally full of animal shit). Guess I'll have to pass on the delicious taste of boiled pig rectums for now.

Now, as is customary and because everyone cares, here's a rating of all the ones I tried that year. None of these should shock anyone.

	Gross. Don't eat this.
	Meh. No real reason to try this.
	About as good as whatever it is you probably eat normally.
	I could eat this all day.

What have I learned? Nothing. This only reinforces the fact that if you haven't heard about something, it's probably for a good reason. I will say that I have tasted a few of these dishes prepared in different ways and it can really make a huge difference, especially for fish and seafood. I've had delicious bacon-smoked octopus that was better than the best smoked salmon you could ever find and I've had tiny frozen octopus bits that tasted like peeled caulking.

If you want something to taste good, just add butter and /or sugar and save your money.
